About Us

ABOUT US

The Centre for Yogic Studies, established under the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, is dedicated to promoting Yoga as a skilled professional discipline rooted in India’s rich intellectual and cultural heritage. The Centre serves as a vibrant academic hub that integrates traditional yogic wisdom with modern scientific approaches, fostering a holistic understanding of health, wellbeing and human consciousness.

With a strong emphasis on experiential learning, the Centre offers programmes such as M.A. Yoga Science, Ph.D., Minor Courses and Value Added Courses, designed to cultivate both theoretical insight and practical proficiency. It also functions as a growing hub of alternative therapies, encouraging the exploration of yoga, naturopathy and allied wellness practices for preventive and primitive healthcare.

Despite limited faculty resources, the Centre actively engages a large number of students across the university through its academic initiatives, yoga clubs, workshops and outreach activities. With dedicated infrastructure including yoga halls and practice spaces, it provides an enabling environment for training, and community engagement.

Committed to academic excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration and societal wellbeing, the Centre for Yogic Studies aspires to evolve into a Centre of Excellence, contributing meaningfully to the advancement of Yoga education, research and holistic health.

HISTORY OF CENTRE FOR YOGIC STUDIES

The Centre for Yogic Studies was established in 2020 under the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies with the launch of the self-financed programme, M.A. Yoga Science, marking the beginning of a structured academic initiative in the field of Yoga. The Centre was initially led by its first Director, Prof. Surendra Kumar, who guided its development from its inception until April 2025. During its formative years, the academic activities of the Centre were supported by faculty members drawn from diverse disciplines, including the Departments of Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Psychology, reflecting its inherently interdisciplinary character. A significant milestone was achieved in the academic session 2025–26 with the introduction of the Ph.D. programme, offering two PhD seats under the supervision of
Prof. Sunita Saini, who currently serves as the Director of the Centre for Yogic Studies. The Centre continues to function effectively through the engagement of three PhD degree holder Teaching Associates on lecture basis and the contribution of a floating faculty member,
Prof. Balvir Acharya, thereby sustaining its teaching and academic activities with commitment and continuity.

VISION
