About Us

The Department of Microbiology was established in June, 2009, with objective to provide education and training facilities, carrying out application oriented research, developing in- house technologies and promoting consultancy services in various areas of Microbiology. The Department currently offers Two M. Sc. Courses viz. M.Sc.Microbiology, M.Sc. Microbial Biotechnology and Ph.D. programmes in various areas of Microbiology. The Department has nine regular faculty members and two adjunct faculties from foreign Universities. Key areas of research in the Department include industrial enzymes, Biofuels, Medical microbiology, Plant microbe interaction, probiotics, bioremediation and bioprocess engineering.

MDU Facilities

Facilities

The Department is well established having six faculty members, smart classrooms, Research Labs, Computer Lab, Conference Room, and other support systems. There are six well-equipped research laboratories supporting teaching and research of M.Sc and Ph.D. students of Department. Three more laboratories including one computer laboratory are fully dedicated to practical classes of two M.SC programs. All the laboratories and classrooms are equipped with projectors and computers with internet facility. The Department has received several research grants from different funding agencies such as DST, DBT, and UGC which have helped in creating conducive environment for innovative and scientific research in Microbiology. The research grants received under DST FIST Program has further strengthened the research facilities in the Department.
